Throwback Thursday – Alpha (Charleston)

The photo was taken on the front steps of the chapter house at 19 Green Street. The house was purchased in 1964. The Alpha Housing Corporation, comprised of Julius Burges, Harry Freeman, Charlie Weinheimer, Clyde Turner, and Henry Viohl, arranged the purchase of this house. The house was sold to the college in 1971, and they tore it down to build an energy facility. The street was then converted into a walkway at the college. After the college purchased that house, The chapter bought a house at 27 George Street.

Jaffee’s big brother in the chapter, Jack Huguley (not pictured in the photo), was in the chapter at the time and is now the Director of Alumni Relations at the College of Charleston.
