Student Spotlight – February 2015 – Joel Blankenship

Joel Blankenship, Delta Chi (Kansas State)

This summer, Joel is participating in Journey of Hope. In an effort to raise awareness and money, Joel has been participating in a unique fundraising effort. He has been sleeping outside in front of the chapter house every night since the spring semester started. No matter what the temperature is or if it happens to be raining or snowing, Joel is outside sleeping. He plans to continue his sleep-out until the end of the semester.

Being a former Army reservist and enrolled in the Kansas State ROTC program, Joel has military grade sleeping equipment and actually overheats in his sleeping bag at times, so there shouldn’t be any concern that he will freeze this winter.

Other than his current fundraising efforts and participation in The Ability Experience events, Joel is an honor student in Kansas State’s Silver Key academic organization and is the current philanthropy chair for his chapter.
