Energy Saving Tips to Celebrate Earth Day

Gaylord Nelson joined Gamma Nu Chapter as an alumni initiate on April 21, 1971.

This year, we’re celebrating his work and memory by listing off four easy things you can do to reduce your negative impact on the environment without sacrificing the things you like.

  1. Be sure to keep electronics off when not in use. 5% of total energy is wasted by unused devices being left plugged in and on.
  2. Keep a mug and some silverware at work. Instead of using two plastic forks and a cup each day, use the same mug and silverwear to save about 250 pieces of plastic per person per year.
  3. Shorten your shower by one minute and save 150 gallons of water/year. That’s good for the enviroment and saves you money on your electric bill.
  4. Make sure your tires are properly inflated. You’ll get better gas mileage saving the planet and your wallet
