Herman Fuchs Memorial Scholarship & Robert Taibi Memorial Scholarship

Herman Fuchs Memorial Scholarship

Herman Fuchs began his fraternal career as a member of Psi Sigma Fraternity. Along with fellow brothers William Berry and Albert Meisel, he became the fifth initiate from Psi Sigma to join Pi Kappa Phi’s Alpha Xi (St. John’s/Brooklyn Polytechnic) Chapter in November of 1928. With his initiation, Brother Fuchs quickly became very instrumental in the formation of this new chapter.

Brother Fuchs was a passionate believer in true fraternity and brotherhood. He was an active alumnus, selfless and lifelong in his volunteer support. In recognition of this, he was awarded a Merit Citation in 1962 for “exceptionally meritorious service to the Pi Kappa Phi Fraternity” at the 29th Supreme Chapter in Lansing, MI. Later, in 1967, he was recognized with the Fraternity’s highest award, Mr. Pi Kappa Phi.

Brother Fuchs’ legacy lives on with each new initiate that is welcomed into Pi Kappa Phi and who shares in the traditions and history of the Alpha Xi Chapter. In addition to being considered the first local refounding father to all Alpha Xi initiates, he is fondly remembered by those alumni who knew him and honored by those students who now follow in his footsteps.

Robert Taibi Memorial Scholarship

Robert Taibi grew up in New York and attended St. John’s University in the mid-1990s. In October of 1999, he joined the Alpha Xi Chapter there and became instrumental in its rechartering. Today, he is considered the first Re-founding Father of the St. John’s Pi Kappa Phi Chapter.

While an undergraduate member of Pi Kappa Phi, Brother Taibi held various leadership roles within his chapter and participated in many programs (such as the R.O.T.C.) within his campus community. Most of all, he served as a mentor and great friend to all who knew him, upholding the values of Pi Kappa Phi to their fullest and representing what true brotherhood means.

After graduation in 2001, Brother Taibi joined the United States Army and became a 2nd Lieutenant. Unfortunately, he joined Chapter Eternal in February of 2002, but his legacy within Pi Kappa Phi and to all who knew him still remains today.
