One great example is the more than 50 university owned chapter homes Pi Kappa Phi chapters reside. This was certainly the case for the Zeta Sigma (California – Davis) Chapter.
In late 2014, then Archon Neil Omega discussed a unique opportunity that the chapter was interested in applying for – a ten bed property at 320 Parkway Circle, owned and operated by Tandem Properties, a student housing operator on the University of California Davis campus. Omega discussed the opportunity with past Pi Kappa Phi Properties’ Director of Housing Services C. Brad Middleton. No doubt there would be several fraternity chapters applying for the house through Tandem’s process.
Middleton worked with the Pi Kappa Phi Communication Team to assist the chapter in preparing their application and submission. In early 2015, the chapter went through a formal presentation process and were awarded the chapter house beginning fall 2015. As part of the process to secure the chapter house, Pi Kappa Phi Properties provided a small security deposit loan to the chapter. Currently the chapter house sleeps ten men with ten bedrooms.
“Having a chapter home on campus has allowed the chapter to be more successful, particularly with our executive council living in one property,” said current Zeta Sigma Archon Francisco Rojas. The chapter is allowed to hold recruitment and brotherhood events at the property with Tandem Properties’ approval.
