UT Tyler Pi Kapps continue traditions at Rose Ball

The weekend got underway with great weather at Lake Tyler, where friends and alumni of the fraternity joined student members for some crawfish, corn, and potatoes. Everyone enjoyed music and conversation, especially the alumni who got to meet new members and hear about the success of the chapter.

Brother Jesse Spruiell was in charge of seasoning and boiling the mudbugs. “The guys were so excited for the crawfish this year they didn’t even let them soak,” Spruiell said.

For the chapter’s newest members, like Scott Lovett, it was an opportunity to unwind and meet some new faces. “My first mudbug was a great experience. It was my first time eating crawfish and I’m glad it was in a carefree environment surrounded by my brothers,” Lovett said.

Saturday evening, the Theta Pi chapter held its annual Spring formal, known as the Rose Ball. The formal is a time for the chapter to honor those who have made great commitments to the chapter and have taken great strides in their journey of life. The event was held at the Goodman-LeGrand House, a historic antebellum home in downtown Tyler. As the sharply dressed Pi Kapps entered the majestic house, they were greeted by masterfully set tables for the dinner service.

Dinner featured salad, the main course of chicken breast with a champagne sauce alongside steamed green beans and diced red potatoes, and finished off with cheesecake.

Following the dinner was the following awards were announced:

  • Best Committee Chairman: Jesse Spruiell and Scott Lovett
  • Best Executive Council member: Kunal Patel, Warden
  • Fogarty Award for Excellence in Intramurals: Austin Doyle
  • Student’s Lamp Award for Excellence in Scholarship: Sean Reinertson
  • Mr. Theta Pi: Chase Miller
  • Rose Queen: Brooke Regalado

The Mr. Theta Pi Award is the highest award bestowed by the student chapter, and it goes to those who show outstanding commitment and dedication to the chapter and our goals. The Rose Queen award goes to the chapter’s sweetheart who embodies all the traits we as Pi Kappa Phi’s hold dear to our heart.

The evening was capped off by chapter members serenading the newly-crowned Rose Queen, Brooke Regalado. Brothers sand “The Rose of Pi Kappa Phi” before taking photos with their dates.
