Brother Richard John “Dick” Emberger, Xi ’59, Roanoke College’s ‘finest athlete.”
Those are glowing words of tribute. But the 21-year-old star from Bloomfield, N.J., has merited this acclaim. He has co-captained three teams this past school year: cross country, swimming, and indoor and outdoor track. He has won a total of 11 varsity letters in the three sports and has proven outstanding in each. But all this success didn’t just come by chance. Dick has spent countless hours on the practice field and in the pool improving himself.
A good example of how the hard work has paid off is in swimming where Dick won the Little Eight diving title three years and would have won a fourth if he hadn’t been hit by mumps just before his sophomore year.
