Event: Build America 2017
Hometown: Gaithersburg, MD
Why did you sign up for this event?
After considering the event since I joined back in Spring 2014, I signed up this past year because I want to make a physical impact on the lives of those who are differently abled. As a future educator, I plan on spending the rest of my life working with students in a classroom, but I know that the most meaningful experiences happen outside the classroom in a social setting. If my participation Build America brightens just one camper’s day, then I’m all in.
What are you most excited for this summer?
I believe that my local chapter at UMBC exemplifies diversity and inclusiveness, and I’m excited to meet other brothers across the country who share the same philanthropic values as we do. Irrespective of chapter designations or location in the country, I can always count on the fact that if you’re a Pi Kapp, you love The Ability Experience.
Tell us a fun fact about yourself:
In Spring 2016 I was co-philanthropy chair for Pi Kapp and the President of my a cappella group, the Mama’s Boys–who were actually founded by two local Pi Kapps from UMBC in 2003. My two organizations decided to team up to host The Ability Jam, the first benefit concert Eta Phi has hosted. The concert featured student performance groups and a local band, but the best act by far was from the SUCCESS Program for students who are differently abled who brought down the house. The premier event was extremely successful, and we’re definitely bringing it back this Spring!
