These awards will be presented at the Annual Meeting of the House of Delegates on April 6, 2014, in Atlanta.
NIC Gold Medal
As one of the oldest traditions in the interfraternal world, the presentation of the NIC Gold Medal dates back more than 70 years. The Gold Medal is presented for lifelong service to the interfraternal community and is the highest honor that the NIC can bestow.
Dr. Phillip Summers (posthumously): a life-long member with 55 years of dedication to Pi Kappa Phi. With a history that includes four terms on Pi Kappa Phi’s National Council and one term as National President, Dr. Summers devoted his time to the success of the fraternity on multiple levels. Although he passed away in 2013, Dr. Summers is remembered for his time as President of Vincennes University where he mentored Sigma Pi’s Alpha chapter. According to Pi Kappa Phi CEO, Mark Timmes, Dr. Summers is the epitome of a fraternity man who was “committed to a strong fraternity experience, visionary in his leadership, faithful in his spirituality and relationships, and a lifelong learner and teacher.” The NIC is proud to recognize Dr. Phillip Summers as a 2014 Gold Medal recipient.
Dr. Summers was also named Indiana University IFC Advisor of the Year.
NIC Silver Medal
For more than 30 years, the NIC Silver Medal has recognized leaders who have taken the lead role or roles in advancing the fraternal movement through specific acts of service or leadership in a project or task.
Dr. Lori Hart (Alpha Omicron Pi): as a national leader in the conversation surrounding risk management, Dr. Hart has worked tirelessly to create safer environments and campuses for the members of the Greek Community. Dr. Hart has championed a message that Greek Life can be a safe experience for all involved through presentations around the country, at nearly every regional Greek leadership conference, and consistently at AFA and FEA. A past Laurel Wreath recipient for Pi Kappa Phi’s Ladder of Risk Program, Dr. Hart is no stranger to involvement with the NIC and the National Panhellenic Conference where she has served as chairman on various risk management-focused committees. For her ongoing dedication to the fraternal movement and safeguarding the future, the NIC recognizes Dr. Lori Hart as a 2014 Silver Medal recipient.
