However, some opportunities may be too good to let go. That is how I refer to Pi Kappa Phi, an opportunity to be a part of something larger than yourself. A group of men who are distinguished as gentlemen, humanitarians, entrepreneurs, followers of God and most importantly exceptional leaders. The organization which has brought leaders, influential individuals and men together that share a common bond to become significant within the community and out.
This summer I was given the chance to be a Brand Ambassador for Gatorade for four weeks. It was a marketing/promoting Mobile Tour up the East Coast. The tour focused on going to designated high-schools to speak to the high-school student athletes and educate them on the importance of hydration while promoting Gatorade products. For an added activity for the student athletes we were educating, they had a chance to get their picture taken and have their face on a Gatorade bottle to take home. It was not until we arrived to Charlotte, North Carolina when an idea came to mind.
Mark E. Timmes the Chief Executive Office for Pi Kappa Phi is not only an alumni from the University of Florida but a proud fan of the Gators. I created a Gatorade bottle with the Pi Kappa Phi Star Shield with my chapter designation Iona (Iota Omicron). Mr. Timmes spent fifteen minutes with me speaking about history of Pi Kappa Phi and how it has made such a positive impact in his life till this day. Mark E. Timmes is a true gentlemen and I saw it firsthand how he explained to me every question I asked. I saw the passion he has for Pi Kappa Phi.
When I was given a tour by Brother Robb Oliveri (Director of alumni engagement) of Pi Kappa Phi headquarters is when it truly awakened my thoughts. I am not only a part of something larger than myself but a part of a brotherhood who have done phenomenal things across the world and even in space. Every brother a part of Pi Kappa Phi comes from different backgrounds and different up bringing though one thing we share is a positive outlook in making a difference. I am proud to call myself a brother of Pi Kappa Phi but especially to be a part of the Iota Omicron Chapter (Iona College).
