The Crux is designed to deepen culturally relevant conversations on diversity, equity, and inclusion. It is for students who find themselves seeking out new information but not having the time to fully read and digest it. This tool will prepare students to engage in dialogue with people different than themselves by delivering bite-sized, digestible, and informative takeaways from resources that move equity conversations forward. This includes, but is not limited to, social justice, anti-racism, power, privilege, ability status, and LGBTQ discrimination.

Our organization began to further debate around important topics in education and society. In the midst of a world that clearly needs to be deepened, rigorous, culturally relevant conversations, it is important to realign with the purpose of our founding. As stated by the fraternity in light of the social unrest stemming from the murder of George Floyd, the pressing issues of our world are exactly the ones we should be grappling with within fraternity and on our campuses. If we create environments that get to the heart of the uncomfortable truths facing us, the result will be a better world for all of our brothers and those around us. Our founding ideals and current conditions call us to push deeper and get to The Crux.

Each month, The Crux will provide an overview of a resource that we hope will either challenge or strengthen your worldview. You will be encouraged to individually reflect on the resource and discuss what was learned with those around you. It is our hope that you will then apply the knowledge to your interfraternal experience and everyday life. As you begin, reflect on Pi Kappa Phi and Theta Xi's history and discuss what that might mean for you in today’s environment.
