For the chapter, the road to chartering started in the fall semester of 2014 where they were colonized and welcomed by the Greek community at Maine and the city of Orono.
The weekend was facilitated by Installation Officer Tracy Maddux, initiate and Founding Fathers of the Zeta Theta chapter at University of Texas at Austin, and Assistant Installation Officer Austin Sellers initiate and Founding Father of the Alpha Epsilon chapter at the University of Florida. In addition to officially instituting the Kappa Zeta chapter, Tracy and Austin provided the men with a challenge to continually improve and excel at the University of Montana.
On Friday night, an initiation team of 20 men from the Iota Lambda chapter at Quinnipiac University helped to welcome the men of Kappa Zeta into the Brotherhood of Pi Kappa Phi.
On Saturday night, the Kappa Zeta chapter hosted a banquet, where nearly 100 friends, family, and members of the Orono community gathered to celebrate the accomplishments of the chapter. The banquet was also attended by Robert Q. Dana, Vice President for Student Affairs and Dean of Students at the University of Maine, who spoke about excelling in and out of the classroom while continually striving to live the values of the fraternity. Pi Kappa Phi would like to thank Dean Dana and looks forward to a strong relationship with the University of Maine.
Lastly, Pi Kappa Phi would like to express its appreciation for the students, advisors, volunteers, university, and National Fraternity staff who put in countless hours to make chartering a reality for these brothers. Undoubtedly, the men of Kappa Zeta have a bright future ahead of them. Welcome to Pi Kappa Phi!
