Iota Nu Honors Late Brother with Inaugural Color Run

On February 27th of 2019, the Iota Nu (Mississippi State) chapter was rocked by the loss of one of their own brothers. Jeremy Conant was only 21 years old and had passed due to a severe case of pneumonia.

Conant was highly involved in the chapter since he served on his pledge class exec. He had two littles and loved everything about Mississippi State. He was the type of guy that would give anyone the shirt off his back without any questions. The Iota Nu Chapter decided the best way to honor his legacy was to start a scholarship in his name so Conant can continue to give back to the school he loved. The scholarship is set up through the MSU Foundation and students attending Mississippi State University can apply.

The chapter pledged to raise $30,000 over 5 years in order to activate the scholarship. Iota Nu decided the best way to raise this money and hold a celebration in honor of him was to have a color run each fall, and the chapter held its inaugural color run on October 20th, 2019.

The event exceeded every expectation Iota Nu had. When the chapter was organizing this event, it wasn’t expecting a lot of the expenses and didn’t know if it would break even. At first, sign-ups were really low, but on race day, the chapter ended up with 141 runners and $8k raised.

The color run had more support from our fellow students and Greek life members than the chapter imagined, and people from the community who heard about Iota Nu’s loss wanted to help out. Conant’s family was able to come down and physically see all of the love and support Jeremy had during his years here as a Pi Kapp.
