Campus recreation hosted its sixth annual costume dodgeball tournament, open to all students. Campus recreation’s special events student manager Brandon Wolucka said one of his goals with this year’s costume dodgeball was to have something fun to offer every student that attended. “We’ve tried to involve (students in) many activities, even if they’re not participating in dodgeball,” he said.
These activities included a costume contest, a pumpkin-decorating contest and a doughnut-eating contest. The doughnut-eating contest required students to drop to their knees and use only their mouths to scarf down a hanging doughnut faster than their opponents. “I thought I was going to win Ñ I did not, but it was fun,” said Sara Salas-Sarmiento, a freshman who competed in the contest. Salas-Sarmiento was also a member of Team USA, who placed second overall in the tournament. She said SF State should to continue to host events for students to participate in.
“I think events like these are important, because they’re fun and simple (competitions) that anyone can join,” she said. “It’s important for everyone to feel included.” Salas-Sarmiento said her team has already decided to attend next year, and her teammate Jason Sou said his favorite thing about this year’s event was the environment.
“Win or lose, everyone’s still here,” Sou said. The winners of the tournament, the Pi Kapp Raiders, said they would also love to attend more events like this on campus, and they too will attend costume dodgeball next year.
