Doug Ireland

There are very few places you will find an individual with a greater devotion to their Alma Mater than Doug Ireland.

In Natchitoches, La., this Northwestern State University alum is the embodiment of loyalty. He has completed more than 25 years as one of the most beloved sports information directors not only in the state, but in the South. Coordinating publicity for NSU’s 14 sports teams brings long hours and sometimes seven-day work weeks, but the outcome is meaningful. It was the chance to make a real difference in the lives of people around me, to help make those coaches more successful, to help the student-athletes have the best possible experience, to be able to celebrate the big wins and the great moments,” he said. Ireland also rubs shoulders with some of Louisiana’s and the nation’s sports greats as executive director and now chairman of the Louisiana Sports Hall of Fame, a job for which he does not collect a salary. Perhaps most indicative of his giving spirit and dedication, Ireland somehow finds time among his duties to serve as advisor to the Beta Omicron Chapter of Pi Kappa Phi. Each week, he devotes time to mentoring student leaders, guiding the direction of the chapter. As a member of the Beta Omicron Alumni Chapter, he is involved in coordinating hundreds of alumni members and volunteers. Doug Ireland is a one-of-a kind individual, whose time and talents are an equally unique gift — the consummate servant leader.

Sincerely,
Lane Luckie
