Delta Alpha clears snow from Blacksburg community after winter storm Jonas

Brothers of the Delta Alpha Chapter (Virginia Tech) knew the dangerous implications of such heavy snow, especially for the senior citizens in the town. As the predictions of accumulation grew, brothers reached out to organizations in the area to help serve as a last line of defense. Officer Buckley with the Blacksburg Police Department reached back and helped us get in contact with our most vulnerable neighbors.

Our brothers teamed up with the Blacksburg Police Department to keep elderly Blacksburg resident’s driveways clear and spirits high during the winter storm Jonas. Equipped with just shovels and brooms, our teams moved a grand total of 900,000 cubic feet of snow from nearly 30 residences! Not only did the brothers ensure all the neighbors that requested help had a clear pathway, sidewalk and driveway, they cleaned off their cars and salted icy patches. Many of the residents thanked us by sharing moving stories of how much this small act of service has helped keep them safe and happy. One of the more memorable stories came from the daughter of an elderly man who is in hospice care.

Delta Alpha is glad they were able to help in a time of real crisis.
