Celebrating 50 Years of Pi Kappa Phi Properties

Properties, incorporated as a Florida not-for-profit corporation has seen numerous changes over its fifty year history but has remained a steady resource for chapters and alumni chapters as well as housing corporations in meeting the needs of fraternity housing on campuses all across the country.

The first meeting of its executive committee was held on Easter Sunday, April 10, 1966, in conjunction with the chartering weekend of the Gamma Gamma (Troy) Chapter. Pi Kappa Phi Properties acquired its first chapter house with a purchase for Gamma Gamma Chapter. The initial officers of the corporation were President Frank Hawthorne, Alpha Iota (Auburn); Vice President Jimmy May, Omicron (Alabama); Vice President Charles Tom Henderson, Chi (Stetson); and Secretary/Treasurer and Honorary 4th Founder, Durward Owen, Xi (Roanoke).

“In 1966, Pi Kappa Phi Properties was a game changer to meet the housing needs of our current chapters and future growth,” said Mark E. Timmes, Pi Kappa Phi Properties’ Chief Executive Officer. “Since then, it remains a competitive edge for us in the interfraternal world as we meet our chapters’ needs for a strong residential fraternity experience.”

Pi Kappa Phi Properties’ mission is to help Pi Kappa Phi Fraternity chapters acquire, construct, improve, finance or mange housing that is competitive on their respective campuses. As Properties turns the page on its 50th year, it is the vision of what lies ahead that continues to drive efforts. On behalf of the Board of Directors, volunteers, staff and students of Pi Kappa Phi Properties, thank you to all who have made our first 50 years so successful for the students of Pi Kappa Phi. Here’s to the next 50!
