Beta Xi alumnus Scott Wickersham named main evening anchor

Wickersham, who has been with the station for 10 years, will be joining the team of anchors Erica Bryant, Chief Meteorologist Steve Udelson and sports anchor Phil Orban in the 5 p.m., 5:30 p.m., 6 p.m. and 11 p.m. newscasts on Channel 9.

“He loves to work on investigative stories, and he flourishes on big story coverage,” said WSOC-TV News Director Julie Szulczewski.

Wickersham recently anchored the 5:30 p.m. newscast at WSOC-TV and worked as an investigative reporter with a focus on Whistleblower 9 investigations.
Wickersham has extensively covered economic development issues across Charlotte and also helped to lead the 2015 9 School Tools drive, making it one of the most successful in the campaign’s 18-year history.

“Scott has made significant contributions to WSOC-TV’s investigative and enterprise reporting,” said WSOC-TV Vice President and General Manager Joe Pomilla. “He will continue to be a leader in this new role at WSOC.”

Before coming to Charlotte, Wickersham anchored and reported the news in Detroit, Lansing, Buffalo and Asheville. He graduated cum laude from Central Michigan University with a degree in Broadcast and Cinematic Arts and was a brother in Pi Kappa Phi Fraternity.
