Lieutenant Raborn, an alumnus of the Beta Omicron Chapter of Pi Kappa Phi Fraternity at Northwestern State University, received the St. John Parish Sheriff’s Office ‘Life Saver’ award Thursday night.
Last August, Raborn responded to St. Joan of Arc Catholic Church in LaPlace, Louisiana, where a woman attending a funeral was reported unresponsive after fainting. 62-year-old Judy Ferraro had stopped breathing and another deputy began administering CPR. With no discernible pulse, Ferraro began to take deep, ragged breaths about a minute after Raborn began chest compressions.
The St. John Parish Fire Department arrived on scene and began rendering aid. After several minutes, Ferraro began responding and was taken by ambulance to a hospital.
Ferraro is now doing well as she continues to recover at home.
Ferraro’s sister later contacted the Sheriff’s Office, saying she and her family wanted to personally thank the deputies for their service and quick response. She also said she was forever grateful for their service.
