During his career with the company, he was primarily involved with offshore and onshore exploration and production businesses throughout the U.S. After numerous assignments, he became general manager of engineering for the U.S. Exploration and Production Company and vice president and general manager of Shell Western E. & P. Company, leading oil and gas operations in the onshore U.S. In addition, he held several senior positions in Shell Corporate Planning in Houston and London.
After retiring from Shell, Lane became the chief operating officer of Sonat Exploration, a large independent exploration and production company located in Houston. He served in this role and other responsibilities involving both onshore and offshore operations until 2000, when the company was sold.
Lane enjoys giving back to the community. He is active in St. Mark’s Episcopal Church, serving as the outreach chair and on the Lord of the Streets Episcopal Mission Bishop’s Committee. He has also been active in the College of Engineering, serving on the College of Engineering Dean’s Industrial Advisory Council and the Department of Chemical and Biological Engineering Industrial Advisory Council.
In 2008, Pi Kappa Phi National Fraternity awarded Lane a Citation of Distinguished Service. He also received the The Ability Experience’s Chairman’s Award in 2009.
Lane is currently a member of the Order of the Knoll, the ISU Foundation Board of Governors and Finance Committee, as well as being a life member of the ISU Alumni Association.
