Getz’s graphic history is based on an 1876 court transcript and does much more than simply depicting a past event; the book harnesses the power of illustration to convey some of the most important themes in world history, and also to show just how that world history is made.
Getz and Clarke’s book, originally published in September 2011, has just been updated for a second edition, set to be released by Oxford University Press in spring 2015. Abina earned rave reviews from both the literary and historical fields upon its initial release.
Pi Kappa Phi alumnus Getz is a former Fulbright scholar and a full professor at San Francisco State University, and lives in Berkeley with his wife and two children.
