2023 Thirty Under 30

Richard Beekman

Richard Beekman, Delta Lambda (UNC-Charlotte), began his career at the very University where he received his undergraduate degree, the University of North Carolina at Charlotte. Working in their constituent relations department, he directly connected with key stakeholders such as prominent alumni, state legislators, federal legislators and more. After working at the University, he enrolled at Wake Forest School of Law, where he is working towards his juris doctor degree. He says the two most formative life experiences thus far have been joining the Marine Corps and Pi Kappa Phi. As a Marine, he learned the value of service-based leadership as well as the importance of taking care of others to accomplish a shared mission. His experience in Pi Kappa Phi built upon this foundation, and the creed is the standard he tries to apply to all aspects of life, pushing him to further his academic success as a law student, hold himself to a high standard, seek out and accept responsibility in all that he does and push himself to excel no matter the task. He serves as an advisor to the newly established Kappa Psi Chapter (Wake Forest). While he himself is not a member of the chapter, their common loyalty as brothers of Pi Kappa Phi has created strong bonds between himself and the men of the chapter. He serves on various alumni boards at his alma mater and is engaged in pro bono work to provide free legal services to those charged with nonviolent crimes but considers his role as an advisor to be his most fulfilling.
