Alex Stuckel
Beta Epsilon — University of Missouri
After completing his undergraduate degrees in Biology and Chemistry at the University of Missouri in 2013, Alex began his Ph.D. program in Cancer Genetics where he is currently a doctoral candidate in Genetics. While working as a graduate researcher in the Missouri University School of Medicine, Alex developed a thesis that envisages molecular markers on DNA that can be used to foresee a relapse event prior to initial treatment in patients with acute lymphoblastic leukemia, the most common form of childhood cancer. Alex’s research has been grant funded by Hyundai Hope on Wheels which awards funds for pediatric cancer to researchers conducting research with a goal of life-saving findings. He has had the opportunity of being selected from a pool of graduate students to present his research at the national epigenetics symposium as well as having manuscript published in the Journal of Leukemia and Lymphoma in January 2017. Alex has also served time as a mentor through a program called “Entering to Mentoring” where he has mentored both undergraduate and high school students.
