Friend of the Fraternity

The Friend of the Fraternity Award allows Pi Kappa Phi to annually recognize a non-member who has provided exceptional service and friendship to the Fraternity. Recipients of this award may not be members of Pi Kappa Phi, but they treat the Fraternity like their own through their continued stewardship and investment in the success of our organization and our members. Living by Pi Kappa Phi’s values, recipients of this award demonstrate a steadfast commitment to the Fraternity and show true friendship to Pi Kappa Phi.

2026 Recipient

Reatha Cox, Sigma Sigma Sigma Sorority

Pi Kappa Phi has named Reatha Cox, a member of Sigma Sigma Sigma Sorority and current international president of the Order of Omega board of directors, as a 2025 recipient of the Friend of the Fraternity Award.

The Friend of the Fraternity Award annually recognizes non-members who have provided exceptional service and friendship to Pi Kappa Phi. Recipients treat the Fraternity as their own through their continued stewardship and investment in the success of its members.

Cox serves as vice president for the student experience and dean of students at Northwestern State University, where she has mentored generations of student leaders and championed the fraternity and sorority experience as an essential part of campus life. During the rechartering of Pi Kappa Phi’s Beta Omicron Chapter in 2000, she provided critical support that helped reestablish a strong foundation for the chapter’s long-term success.

She has also been instrumental in the success of the Morgan Extra Mile Scholarship Program, which recognizes Pi Kappa Phi and Sigma Sigma Sigma members who “go the extra mile” through leadership and service. Her continued guidance has helped the program become one of Northwestern State’s most meaningful traditions, awarding significant scholarships each year and inspiring students to lead with purpose.

A past recipient of Pi Kappa Phi’s Durward W. Owen Interfraternity Award for Greek Service, Cox has long embodied values-based leadership. In her role as international president of the Order of Omega board of directors, she continues to expand the organization’s mission and strengthen partnerships across campuses nationwide.

Cox’s steadfast support of Pi Kappa Phi and her lifelong commitment to advancing the fraternity and sorority community exemplify the spirit of the Friend of the Fraternity Award.

2025 Recipient

Mardie Sorensen, Pi Beta Phi Fraternity

Pi Kappa Phi has named Mardie Sorensen, a member of Pi Beta Phi Fraternity and former executive director of Order of Omega, as a 2025 recipient of the Friend of the Fraternity Award.

The Friend of the Fraternity Award annually recognizes non-members who have provided exceptional service and friendship to Pi Kappa Phi. Recipients treat the Fraternity as their own through their continued stewardship and investment in the success of its members.

Before her time at Order of Omega, Sorensen served in student affairs administration at the University of Texas at Arlington where she began her life’s work of supporting student leadership and the fraternity and sorority community. She joined Order of Omega’s staff in 1995 and went on to become only the second executive director in the organization’s history, leading it through three decades of growth and innovation. Under her direction, Order of Omega expanded to hundreds of campuses across North America, awarded more than $870,000 in scholarships and fellowships and modernized its operations to support future generations of student leaders. Throughout her tenure, Sorensen championed collaboration among Greek-letter organizations and demonstrated true support for Pi Kappa Phi’s mission and members, helping strengthen relationships between the two organizations through initiatives that promoted leadership education and interfraternal collaboration. She played a key role in forging a partnership that brought an Order of Omega case study competition to Pi Kapp College for Chapter Officers, making Pi Kappa Phi only the second fraternity to host such a program. Her leadership advanced opportunities for student development across the interfraternal community, encouraging generations of student leaders, including Pi Kappa Phi members, to pursue excellence and service.

A respected leader across the Greek world, Sorensen’s warmth, professionalism and belief in the transformative power of fraternity and sorority life have left a lasting impact on Pi Kappa Phi and the broader fraternal movement. Through her decades of service and friendship, Sorensen has helped shape a stronger interfraternal community and has left an enduring mark on the brothers of Pi Kappa Phi.
