J. Gunnar Schalin began his journey with Pi Kappa Phi on October 1, 1965, when he initiated into the Upsilon Chapter at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. He is now retired from Southwestern College, where he served as a contract director, providing leadership and expertise in support of the institution’s mission.

A proud member of the Nu Phi Society, Schalin received the Merit Citation in 1989 in recognition of his outstanding service. In 2024, he was honored as Mr. Pi Kappa Phi — the Fraternity’s highest distinction.

He currently serves on the Pi Kappa Phi Foundation Board of Trustees and contributes his insight as a member of the Foundation’s Scholarship Committee.

Schalin continues to give his time, talent and treasure to the Pi Kappa Phi Foundation because he resonates with the Fraternity’s values and mission and believes that the Foundation plays an essential role in supporting them.
