Chase DuMond, Alpha Iota (Auburn), is the 2024 recipient of the Thomas Sayre Award. This award is named in honor of Thomas Sayre, Kappa (North Carolina), who helped establish PUSH America, the predecessor to The Ability Experience, as Pi Kappa Phi’s national philanthropy. This award recognizes a student member of Pi Kappa Phi who has demonstrated the most outstanding passion and dedication to The Ability Experience through service, raising awareness and fundraising.
DuMond represents the spirit of this award in all that he does. He has attended and helped facilitate Ability Camp ASSCA, engaged in and helped involve his chapter brothers in Friendship Visits with the Miracle League of East Alabama, participated in Gear Up Florida and will participate in Journey of Hope this summer. When he became a Pi Alpha, he knew his work within The Ability Experience and his chapter was not complete, and he wanted to start a tradition of commitment and vowed that he would not be Alpha Iota’s last Pi Alpha. His work has paid off, as five others have followed in his footsteps so far. By sharing his journey and his experience with the Ability Experience, DuMond had impacted others and set an example of what it means to be a chapter leader.
DuMond graduated in 2024 and after returning from Journey of Hope this summer, he will begin his term as a leadership consultant with Pi Kappa Phi.
DuMond received this award at The Ability Experience’s Journey of Hope arrival celebration in Washington, D.C., in August.
