The chapter was officially chartered on Saturday, March 7, 2015, and was the first successful chartering at UNLV in the last decade.
The chapter was installed by current National President Tracy Maddux, Zeta Theta (Texas-Austin), and current National Secretary Tim Hebson, Alpha Eta (Samford), respectively. The 50 founding fathers were initiated into Pi Kappa Phi by the men of Theta Sigma (Cal State-Long Beach) with assistance from the chapter’s local volunteers Greg Chase, Beta Epsilon (Missouri), and Russ Faulkner, Delta Psi (Texas-Arlington), as well as other national volunteers such as Wayne Unger, Theta Xi (Arizona State), and the current student representative to the national council, Andrew Carnes, Theta Sigma (Cal State-Long Beach). Overall, it was a fantastic evening that the newest members of Pi Kappa Phi will never forget.
Representing the national fraternity at the chapter’s chartering banquet were the Chief Operating Officer Christian Wiggins, Epsilon Alpha (Elon), and Leadership Consultant James Maloney, Beta Eta (Florida State). Members of the UNLV community were present including Assistant Director of Fraternity & Sorority Life/Campus Activities Jane Neitz-Singleton, Program Coordinator for Fraternity & Sorority Life Megan Brower, IFC President Matt Kahn, and PHC President Lauren Scheer.
During his keynote address, Tracy Maddux told the story of when he was hiking as a brand new founding father alongside his brothers, Tracy injured himself and his brothers where able to help him to safety. Tracy further addressed that fraternities currently face all kinds of challenges and we must do our share to make sure that not only our individual chapters, but Pi Kappa Phi as a whole continues to be exceptional leaders who provide uncommon opportunities.
The UNLV Fraternity & Sorority Life Community and Pi Kappa Phi are extremely proud of the men of Iota Omega and look forward to all that they will accomplish.
